A comprehensive transformation at Abeking & Rasmussen breathes new life into the classic Saint Nicolas
Once known as Saint Nicolas, the 73-metre Lürssen superyacht now relaunched as Starfire has emerged from a year-long, $15 million refit at Abeking & Rasmussen’s renowned facility in Lemwerder, Germany. Originally delivered in 2007 with exterior design by Espen Øino, the vessel has been entirely reimagined for the modern charter market, blending enduring pedigree with forward-thinking design.
One of the most significant upgrades is a 3-metre stern extension designed by Murray & Associates. This modification not only sharpens the yacht’s profile but dramatically improves onboard functionality. The extended platform now hosts a 12-person dining area, a staging zone for water toys, and an enhanced tender launch system—creating a seamless waterside experience tailored to active charter lifestyles.
The sundeck has also been transformed into a full-service wellness retreat. Enclosed by a retractable glass atrium, the new spa features a gym, infrared sauna, massage suite, and cold plunge pool. A heated 5m x 3m swimming pool, fitted with counter-current jets, now doubles as a spacious hot tub with a swim-up bar—an impressive feat of design in itself.
Interior work, led by Patrick Knowles Design, focused on natural light, volume, and modern comfort. The result is a bright, open-plan layout enriched with floor-to-ceiling windows and warm, neutral materials. Accommodation has been refitted for ultimate guest flexibility: seven cabins now sleep 12, including a main deck master with private office and a junior master on the bridge deck. A lift links all levels, from the tank deck to the upper sundeck, ensuring full accessibility throughout.
Technically, Starfire has also undergone comprehensive systems upgrades, bringing her in line with the latest safety, compliance, and environmental standards. With a gross tonnage of 1,954 GT and beam of 12.8 metres, she offers expansive space without compromising performance or elegance.
Starfire is now charter-ready, listed through Northrop & Johnson with weekly rates from $680,000. The refit serves not only as a testament to the longevity of German yacht craftsmanship but also a reminder of the commercial value in investing strategically in large-scale refurbishment.
Starfire’s transformation is proof that with the right vision, the right shipyard, and the right team, a classic can be reborn—stronger, sharper, and ready for a new chapter.
