Europe remains the epicentre of large superyacht construction, yet the United Arab Emirates is steadily emerging as a significant player in this prestigious arena. Among the UAE’s rising shipbuilders is Romeo Marine, which celebrated the recent launch of the 54.43-metre Al Hanem 2, marking a clear milestone in the company’s expansion into larger yacht projects.
Romeo Marine stems from a deep-rooted heritage in luxury interiors, with its origins linked to Romeo Interiors, founded in 1983 by Egyptian brothers Nader and Samy Nashed. Over decades, Romeo Interiors has cemented its reputation as a go-to provider of premium interiors across the UAE’s yacht, commercial, and hospitality sectors. Recognising growing client demand, Nader Nashed diversified into yacht refit and new construction by establishing Romeo Marine in 2008.
Today, Romeo Marine operates several specialised facilities within Dubai Maritime City, including a dedicated new-build yard capable of accommodating vessels up to 100 metres. The shipyard’s configuration allows simultaneous work on multiple projects, currently managing two 60-metre builds staggered six months apart, alongside various refit contracts. This versatility reflects the company’s dual expertise in both intricate refit work and ambitious new builds.

During the Monaco Yacht Show, Operations Director Eugenio Voltolina discussed Romeo Marine’s evolution, highlighting the UAE’s supportive environment for shipbuilding. “Establishing new facilities here is remarkably efficient,” he noted. “Projects can progress four to five times faster than in Europe, thanks to government support and streamlined processes within Dubai Maritime City’s free zone.”
The UAE’s rapid infrastructure growth and investment in waterfront developments underpin this marine industry momentum. Romeo Marine continues to build its technical expertise through targeted training and attracting skilled talent—addressing the challenge of competing at the highest international standards.
Looking forward, Romeo Marine aims to stretch beyond the 60-metre mark, with plans already underway for a 70-metre superyacht project. Sustainability is central to their vision: the current 60-metre vessel under construction will be fully hybrid, integrating cutting-edge technology comparable to Europe’s top-tier builds.
With this strategic growth, Romeo Marine is firmly positioning itself as a formidable presence in the evolving superyacht landscape, blending refined craftsmanship with innovative engineering to meet the demands of discerning owners in the region and beyond.
