From working vessel to elegant cruiser — Damen Yachting delivers a remarkable 60m rebirth for a classic motor yacht.
The 65-metre motor yacht Lady Esther has emerged anew following a comprehensive three-year rebuild at Damen Maaskant Shipyard in Stellendam, the Netherlands. Originally constructed in 1979 by Elsflether Werft in Germany as Hanse, the vessel underwent significant transformations, including a name change to Lou Spirit, before adopting her current name, Lady Esther. This extensive refit stands as one of Damen Maaskant’s most technologically advanced yacht projects to date.
The rebuild involved lengthening the yacht from her original 50 metres to over 60 metres, a process that included renewing almost the entire aluminium superstructure and adding two open decks. A notable addition is the large jacuzzi on the sun deck, enhancing the vessel’s luxury amenities. The redesign was a collaborative effort between Vripack Design and the owner’s interior team, ensuring that the yacht’s aesthetics matched her enhanced capabilities.
Damen Maaskant, with over 75 years of shipbuilding experience, has demonstrated its capacity to undertake complex refits and conversions on vessels up to 70 metres. The shipyard’s facilities, including three drydocks and a covered refit area, provide direct access to the North Sea, facilitating efficient project execution. Managing Director Eric Moerkerk highlighted the yard’s commitment to tailor-made solutions and a no-nonsense mentality, qualities that have attracted yacht owners and captains seeking reliable refit services.
Lady Esther’s transformation exemplifies the precision and dedication inherent in high-calibre yacht refits, reaffirming Damen Maaskant’s position at the forefront of maritime craftsmanship.
